Vehicle Goes Off Overpass In Claymont, Trapped For An Hour

At approximately 12:00 am, New Castle County Paramedics, Brandywine Hundred Fire
Company, Claymont Fire Company, Christiana Fire Company, the New Castle County High
Angle & Confined Space Rescue (HACSR) Team, and Delaware State Police Aviation were
dispatched to Interstate 495 Northbound in the area of Edgemoor Road in Claymont for a motor
vehicle collision with a vehicle reported off an overpass and down an embankment near the
railroad tracks.

Upon arrival, New Castle County Paramedics found a 26-year-old male patient trapped in
his vehicle, in the care of Claymont Fire Company EMTs. The patient remained trapped in his
vehicle for over 55 minutes while rescue personnel worked to extricate him. The patient suffered
injuries to his head and lower extremities. He was treated on scene by New Castle County
Paramedics and was transported to Christiana Hospital via Brandywine Hundred Fire Company
ambulance, accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics. The patient was in serious
condition at the time of transport.
