Man Charged With December 5th Shooting

A Wilmington Police investigation has resulted in an arrest in connection with a December 5 shooting.

Officials said on December 5 at approximately 11:14 a.m., police responded to the 800 block of Kirkwood Street for a shooting that had occurred.  Police located a 42-year-old male gunshot victim who was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

The case was assigned to Detective Kevin Murphy of the Criminal Investigation Division.  Through the course of his investigation, Detective Murphy identified 39-year-old Thomas Tate as a suspect according to police.  An arrest warrant was secured for Tate who was taken into custody without incident on December 9. 

Tate was charged with the following offenses:

  • Assault – 1st Degree
  • Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $50,000 cash-only bail.
