Maryland Woman Killed In Monday Morning Accident In Glasgow

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred in Newark this morning.

Officials said on May 22, 2023, at approximately 9:33 a.m., a Peterbilt dump truck loaded with gravel stone was traveling eastbound in the right lane on Pulaski Highway near Corporal Stephen J Ballard Way. A Hyundai Sonata was traveling eastbound on Pulaski Highway directly behind the dump truck. As the dump truck began to slow down for a traffic light, the Sonata did not slow down, causing its front bumper to collide with the rear center of the dump truck according to police.

The driver of the dump truck, a 59-year-old man from Colora, Maryland, was properly seat belted and uninjured during the collision. The driver of the Sonata, a 31-year-old woman from North East, Maryland, was also properly seat belted. She was transported to an area hospital, where she died from injuries sustained during the collision. The identification of the victim is pending notification to her family.

Pulaski Highway between Summit Bridge Road and Corporal Stephen J Ballard Way was decreased to one lane of travel for approximately 2 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
