Wilmington Police have arrested and charged two juveniles in connection with an armed carjacking that occurred.
Officials said on May 16 at approximately 7:13 p.m., police were dispatched to the 600 block of Geddes Street in reference to an armed carjacking that had occurred. A short time later, police officers located the stolen vehicle and attempted to conduct a stop, but the vehicle fled from officers. The vehicle was recovered later in the evening by police in Chester, Pennsylvania, and police there took a 14-year-old male and a 17-year-old male into custody after foot pursuits.
FSU reported on Tuesday that the chase began on I-95 in the area of Christiana Mall. That chase led officers into Maryland before the vehicle turned around and headed back into Delaware. The chase then headed up I-495 and then into Pennsylvania where were told the car crashed and the occupants fled on foot.
The case was assigned to Detective Kevin Murphy of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Murphy was able to identify the two juveniles as suspects in connection with the armed carjacking. Both suspects were extradited to Delaware on May 17.
The 17-year-old male has been charged with the following offenses in addition to traffic violations:
- Robbery (First Degree)
- Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
- Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
- Conspiracy (Second Degree)
- Receiving Stolen Property
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $85,100 cash-only bail.
The 14-year-old male has been charged with the following offenses:
- Robbery (First Degree)
- Conspiracy (Second Degree) – Two Counts
- Resisting Arrest
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $42,500 cash-only bail.
