Police: Would Be Carjacker Released On His Own Recognizance

Delaware State Police have arrested 38-year-old Daniel Russo of Wilmington, DE, for attempted robbery and related charges following an attempted carjacking this morning.

Officials said on May 1, 2023, at approximately 5:38 a.m., troopers responded to the parking lot of Amazon located at 1025 Boxwood Road, Wilmington in reference to an attempted carjacking.

It was learned that a 29-year-old female victim exited the building and walked through the parking lot to her vehicle. As the victim entered her vehicle, a suspect, later identified as Russo approached her and demanded that she exit the vehicle and give him the keys. The victim did not comply, so Russo grabbed the victim and attempted to forcibly remove her from the vehicle according to police. After a brief struggle, the victim was able to close her door and flee to Amazon security.

Upon troopers’ arrival to the scene, security and other employees pointed out the suspect who was still in the parking lot. Troopers located Russo and took him into custody without incident.

Russo was transported to Troop 2 where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Attempted Robbery Second Degree (Felony)
  • Offensive Touching

Russo was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #2 and released on his own recognizance.
