Man Shot At Red Light In Newark Late Friday

The Delaware State Police are actively investigating a shooting incident that occurred late last night, resulting in the injury of a 52-year-old man.

Officials said the incident took place on June 2, 2023, at approximately 11:30 p.m. Responding to the situation, troopers started their investigation after the victim arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound.

Preliminary findings indicate that earlier in the evening, around 10:00 p.m., the victim encountered an unidentified male exhibiting reckless driving behavior on northbound Sunset Lake Road. As tensions escalated, the victim engaged in a verbal altercation with the individual when they both reached the red light at the intersection of Sunset Lake Road and Old Baltimore Pike.

During the heated exchange, the unknown assailant fired multiple shots at the victim using a handgun before fleeing the scene according to police. Sustaining a single gunshot wound to his hand, the victim sought medical assistance at the hospital.

Authorities have provided a description of the suspect involved in the incident. The assailant is described as a black male, estimated to be between 20 and 30 years old. Additionally, he was seen driving a gold Buick LeSabre manufactured between 2005 and 2010, bearing an out-of-state license plate. At present, surveillance footage and images related to the case have not yet been made available.
