Townsend Firefighter Comes Upon Rollover Crash Saturday Morning

Early Saturday morning, a rollover crash with reported entrapment sent emergency responders rushing to the scene on Vandyke Greenspring Road in Townsend. The incident unfolded shortly after 8:00 a.m. when a captain from the Townsend Fire Company radioed dispatch to alert them of the situation.

Fireboard, the New Castle County 911 Center, dispatched emergency personnel to the scene. However, just minutes later the on-scene firefighter relayed that the two occupants of the overturned vehicle had managed to free themselves before the arrival of the additional emergency responders.

KentCom, the Kent County 911 Center, dispatched Kent County Medics to provide assistance at the accident site.

Delaware State Police Aviation’s Trooper 4 was initially deployed but was eventually recalled as it became evident that the situation was under control. Just after 8:30, the incident Commander announced that the incident was now under control and held the scene for the units that had already arrived.

At this time, the conditions and injuries sustained by the vehicle’s occupants remain unknown. Initial reports from the scene indicate that one patient was transported the Christiana Hospital by ground.
