Foot Chase Leads To 13-Year-Old’s Arrest On Drug And Gun Charges

The Dover Police Department has made an arrest following a firearm investigation.

On Wednesday, officers from the Drugs, Vice, and Organized Crime Unit, in collaboration with the Street Crimes Unit, arrested a 13-year-old male in Dover.

The incident occurred around 1:41 p.m. when officers attempted to approach the 13-year-old in the unit block of South New Street. However, upon seeing the officers, the individual fled on foot in an attempt to evade capture according to police. The officers gave chase, and after a foot pursuit, they apprehended the suspect.

During the pursuit, the 13-year-old dropped a 9mm handgun, which was later recovered by the officers. Additionally, clothing items belonging to the suspect were found along the path he ran. Further investigation revealed that the young individual was also in possession of 1.2 grams of crack cocaine at the time of his arrest police said.

As a result, the 13-year-old is now facing multiple charges. He has been charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of ammunition by a person prohibited, illegal gang participation, resisting arrest, and possession of crack cocaine.

He was committed to Stevenson House. His bail has been set at $26,000.
