On Tuesday night a fire broke out in the unit block of Onaway Place in the Garfield Park neighborhood. Reported just before 10:00 pm, firefighters from the Minquadale Fire Company responded to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered flames at the rear of the home.
Investigators with the Office of the State Fire Marshal were dispatched to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire. Michael Chionchio, the Assistant State Fire Marshal, said after conducting a thorough investigation, the State Fire Marshal’s office determined that the fire was accidental.
Chionchio said the cause of the fire was attributed to discharged fireworks, which had ignited the roof of the house. The estimated damage amounted to approximately $25,000. There were no reported injuries.
