Investigators: Camden Home Destroyed By Discarded Fireworks

The Office of the State Fire Marshal in Delaware has concluded that the fire which resulted in the destruction of a house near Camden was accidental. The incident took place on the night of July 4, 2023, in the 400 block of Apple Blossom Drive, close to Walnut Shade Road. Upon arrival at the scene, the Camden Wyoming Fire Company discovered the two-story house fully engulfed in flames.

Deputy fire marshals were dispatched to investigate the origin and cause of the fire. Their investigation revealed that the fire had started on the exterior of the house. It was determined that spent fireworks had been placed inside a trash container after being discharged. The items within the container ignited, causing the fire to spread from the exterior to the interior of the home according to investigators.

The fire caused significant damage, estimated at $250,000. In response to the emergency, the American Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance to an adult and a child who were affected by the incident.

One firefighter was transported to Bayhealth Kent Campus Hospital for a medical evaluation.
