Newark Police Say Man Made False Road Rage Report

On the afternoon of July 12, 2023, the Newark Police Department received a report of a road rage incident in the vicinity of E. Main Street and South College Avenue. The incident was reported at approximately 5:23 pm and prompted a response from law enforcement.

According to the initial report, a 26-year-old man identified as Kasai Davenport from Elkton, Maryland, claimed to be the victim of the road rage encounter. Davenport informed the investigating officers that the driver of the other vehicle involved had committed several traffic violations during the altercation and had even brandished a handgun, officials said Monday.

The Newark Police launched an investigation into the alleged road rage incident. As part of their inquiry, officers utilized the surveillance footage from the Newark Public Safety Camera System and used other investigation methods.

Officials said as the investigation progressed and the evidence was analyzed, it became apparent that the reported incident was not as it was initially reported. Contrary to Davenport’s claims, the gathered evidence did not support the presence of a gun according to police.

Upon examination of the evidence, the Newark Police came to the conclusion that Davenport’s report was false, and he was arrested on one count of Falsely Reporting an Alleged Incident to Law Officer/Agency which Did Not Occur.

Davenport was arraigned by a judge at Justice of the Peace Court # 2 and was released on his own recognizance, with a pending court date.
