On Monday morning, at approximately 9;45, the Newark Police responded to a report of a burglary at a residence located in the 100-block of Victoria Court.
Officials said the homeowner had discovered missing property, but there was no sign of forced entry into the house.
During the investigation, an officer in the area noticed a man in possession of stolen items from the residence according to Lt. Andrew Rubin. The officer arrested the man identified as Xavier Varnes, 32, who does not have a fixed address said Rubin.
Further investigation revealed that Varnes, along with two unidentified accomplices, had entered the residence and stolen various items. Although the investigation is ongoing, the police are yet to identify the other two suspects involved in the burglary.
Following his arrest, Varnes was transported to Newark Police headquarters, where he faced multiple charges, including Burglary in the Second Degree, Conspiracy in the Second Degree, and Theft Under $1500. He subsequently appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #2 via video and was ordered to be held in default of $3,250 secured bail. Varnes was then transferred to the custody of the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington.
