Police: Second Suspect In 2021 Barber Shop Murder In Custody

Delaware State Police have made another arrest in a murder that occurred in May of 2021.

Officials said that they have arrested 19-year-old Jesean Coverdale (Right) of Milford, for murder. The incident, which took place at the Uplift Barber Shop on Governors Avenue, resulted in the death of 23-year-old Javon D. Jones, a patron at the establishment. Coverdale’s arrest comes more than two years after the shooting occurred.

On May 15th, 2021, at approximately 5:42 p.m., the Delaware State Police responded to an emergency call reporting a shooting at the Uplift Barber Shop in Dover. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered 23-year-old Javon D. Jones with gunshot wounds to his upper torso. Jones was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries

The investigation into the shooting incident was conducted by the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit. Through their investigative measures, they identified Kyree Robinson and Jesean Coverdale as the suspects involved in the shooting. Kyree Robinson (Left) had been apprehended earlier on April 20, 2022, while Coverdale managed to elude capture until July 25, 2023.

Following an extensive investigation, Troop 3 Patrol made contact with Jesean Coverdale during a traffic stop on July 25, 2023. It was discovered that Coverdale had an active warrant related to the shooting incident. He was taken into custody and transported to Troop 3, where he was charged with serious crimes, including First Degree Murder and First Degree Conspiracy.

After being taken into custody, Coverdale was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 7, where he was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on an $85,000 cash bond.

Kyree Robinson, the other suspect involved in the shooting, had already been charged with First Degree Murder, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited. He was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court #2 and was issued a $1,070,000 cash bond. At the time of his arraignment, Robinson was incarcerated at Howard R. Young Correctional Institution and remained in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
