NJ Officials Searching For Escaped Attempted-Murder Inmate

On Tuesday, September 26, 2023, an incident came to light involving an escaped inmate in Mount Laurel Township, New Jersey. The escapee, Edward Berbon, had been in the custody of the New Jersey Department of Corrections (NJDOC) and was assigned to a halfway house at the time of his escape.

Edward Berbon had a lengthy history in the criminal justice system, having been in custody since 2005 due to attempted murder charges. His scheduled release date was set for February 12, 2024. Berbon’s physical description was provided as approximately 6 feet tall and weighing 250 pounds. He had blue eyes and brown/gray hair.

The Mount Laurel Police Department issued a public appeal for assistance in locating Edward Berbon. They urged anyone with pertinent information to contact the NJDOC Special Investigation Unit – Fugitive Unit at 1-800-523-3829. Additionally, in case of a personal sighting of Mr. Berbon, individuals were advised to immediately dial 9-1-1.
