Police Identify Man Struck And Killed In Millsboro

File

The Delaware State Police are conducting an ongoing investigation into a fatal pedestrian accident that took place in the Millsboro area. Bruce Peterson, a 77-year-old resident of Millsboro, passed away on October 26, 2023, due to injuries he sustained in the accident that occurred the previous night.

The incident happened on October 25, 2023, around 9:23 p.m. as Peterson was walking westbound along the shoulder of Long Neck Road, east of School Lane Road in Millsboro. Concurrently, a black 2014 Chrysler 300 and a white 2015 Ford Escort were moving eastbound on Long Neck Road and were approaching Peterson’s location. According to police, Peterson, who was not using a light or wearing reflective clothing, stepped into the eastbound lane, directly in the path of the Chrysler. The Chrysler then braked abruptly and was rear-ended by the Ford. The front of the Chrysler subsequently collided with Peterson.

Following the collision, Peterson was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. He succumbed to his injuries the next day, on October 26. The drivers of both the Chrysler and the Ford, a 37-year-old woman and a 23-year-old woman respectively, both from Millsboro, were not injured in the incident.

The eastbound lane of Long Neck Road was closed for approximately three hours for investigative purposes and to clear the roadway.
