Original Story

The Delaware State Police are conducting an ongoing investigation into a fatal shooting that occurred late last night in the parking lot of a strip mall in Selbyville. The incident left a 21-year-old woman dead and another woman injured.

According to authorities, troopers were dispatched to the scene at 36334 Dupont Boulevard at approximately 11:56 p.m. on October 28, 2023, following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they observed several vehicles hastily leaving the area and discovered multiple shell casings scattered across the parking lot.

Shortly after the initial response, a 21-year-old woman from Milford was reported to have arrived at a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound. She was subsequently pronounced dead at the hospital. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of her family and relatives. A second victim, a 30-year-old woman from Seaford, was also privately transported to a nearby hospital, where she received treatment for a gunshot wound to her upper extremity and was later released.

Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that a Halloween party was being held at a business within the strip mall. A fight erupted during the event, leading to attendees being asked to disperse. The altercation spilled into the parking lot, where an unidentified suspect produced a handgun and opened fire. The two victims were not participants in the fight. The 21-year-old victim was in the process of reaching her car when she was shot in the upper torso. The 30-year-old victim was inside her car when it was struck by bullets.

Following the shooting, the crowd dispersed, and the unidentified suspect left the scene in an unspecified direction.
