One Dead In Seaford House Fire Sunday

The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating a residential fire that resulted in significant damage and a fatality Sunday morning.

The fire, which broke out in the 8000 block of Hearns Pond Road in Seaford, was reported shortly after 9:30 A.M.

Upon arrival, the Seaford Volunteer Fire Department, along with Sussex County Paramedics, encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the occupied dwelling. Despite efforts, rescue attempts were hindered by the intense fire conditions. Additional support was provided by mutual aid fire companies.

Tragically, one victim was discovered deceased inside the dwelling. The body has been transferred to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science Medical Examiner for further examination.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal Major Incident Response Team, in collaboration with the Delaware State Police, is conducting an investigation to ascertain the origin and cause of the fire. As of now, the cause remains undetermined.

During the rescue operations, a Sussex County Paramedic sustained injuries and has since been treated and released. No other injuries have been reported. The estimated property damage from the fire is around $200,000.
