Two Women Charged In Dover Shooting Incident

The Dover Police Department has arrested two individuals, Jalisa Agard, 35, from Middletown (right), and Akosua Whitted, 39, from Dover (left), in connection with a shooting incident that occurred last Wednesday.

Officials said the event unfolded at approximately 11:36 p.m. when a patrolling officer reported hearing gunshots near the intersection of John Hunn Brown Road and South Little Creek Road.

The officer witnessed a vehicle speeding away from the vicinity shortly after the gunshots were heard according to police. A subsequent stop of the vehicle led to the identification of Agard and Whitted as the occupants. During this encounter, a 30-year-old Dover woman reported being the target of the shooting at the same location. There were no injuries reported from this incident.

A search of the vehicle in which Agard and Whitted were traveling resulted in the discovery of two loaded 9mm handguns. The Dover Police Department’s investigative efforts concluded that Agard and Whitted were actively involved in the shooting incident as described.

Both suspects were taken into custody and processed at the Dover Police Department. Agard is currently held at Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution (BWCI) with a cash bail set at $48,000. The charges against her include Reckless Endangering First Degree, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Conspiracy Second Degree. Whitted, similarly detained at BWCI, faces a cash bail of $44,000 for charges mirroring those of Agard.

This case is an ongoing investigation, and the Dover Police Department is urging anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
