Wilmington Man Charged In Philadelphia Pike Mugging

On November 15, 2023, at approximately 9:38 p.m., a robbery occurred in the parking lot of the Philly Salon, located at 222 Philadelphia Pike in Wilmington, Delaware.

The Delaware State Police reported that an unknown white male suspect approached an employee of the salon who was taking out the trash. The suspect demanded the victim’s belongings, threatening to shoot her.

When the victim did not comply, a struggle ensued, leading to both individuals falling to the ground. The suspect forcibly took the victim’s necklace and purse before fleeing the scene on foot in a northeast direction. The victim, a 36-year-old female, was not injured during the incident.

Following an investigation, Delaware State Police arrested 33-year-old Michael Hoyte of Wilmington in connection with the robbery. The arrest occurred on November 17, 2023, after Troop 2 Robbery Detectives located Hoyte on Maryland Avenue in Wilmington.

He was subsequently charged with first-degree robbery, a felony. Hoyte was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $60,000 cash bond.
