Laurel Man Struck And Killed Sunday Evening

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred Sunday evening in Seaford that left one man dead.

On December 3, 2023, at approximately 9:15 p.m., a 2019 maroon Dodge Grand Caravan was stopped on the right shoulder of Sussex Highway, south of Ockles Road.

Police said for unknown reasons, the 88-year-old driver of the Dodge exited the van and was in the right southbound lane of Sussex Highway in the path of travel of an approaching 2005 gold Lincoln Town Car. The 88-year-old man was not wearing or carrying any type of reflective clothing and was struck by the Lincoln in the right lane according to police. As a result, the man was thrown onto the roadway and came to rest on the west edge of the grass median.

The driver of the Dodge, a man from Laurel was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified.

The driver of the Lincoln, a 68-year-old man from Delmar, Delaware, was not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately 3.5 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
