Man Facing Multiple Felonies After Tipster Alerts Police

Patrol Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police have arrested a 35-year-old Wilmington man following a felony theft investigation.

Officials said on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at 03:55 a.m., officers responded to Cavalier Country Club Apartments in reference to a suspect stealing tires from a parked vehicle.

Officers immediately responded to the complex and located the suspect vehicle, a silver Dodge pickup truck. Officers determined that the license plate for the suspect vehicle was also stolen. Officers attempted to stop the suspect vehicle but the driver fled. Officers pursued the vehicle towards the area of Market Street in Newport. The suspect then exited the vehicle and attempted to run.

Officers then took the suspect into custody after a foot pursuit. The Dodge used by the suspect was discovered to be stolen from Hunters Crossing Apartments according to police. Officers also located the stolen tires inside the truck from the original theft.

The suspect, identified as Robert Cole, was transported to New Castle County Police headquarters and charged with one felony count of disregarding a police officer signal (subsequent offense), one felony count of theft $1500 or greater, one felony count of receiving stolen property, one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest, and multiple traffic-related charges. He was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and held in lieu of $13,500.00 secured bail.
