Dover Weather Radar Offline Due To Motor Failure

The National Weather Service’s Doppler radar (KDOX) located near Ellendale, Delaware, is currently offline due to a motor failure according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly.

This radar, located along U.S. Route 113 just north of Ellendale in Sussex County, is an important part of the weather monitoring and forecasting infrastructure in the region. The National Weather Service uses the radar to analyze thunderstorms and other weather phenomena across Delmarva. The Dover radar, as it’s known, is part of the NEXRAD network, consisting of 159 radars across the United States.

The National Weather Service has not specified the exact timeline for the radar’s return to service, but it is expected to be between January 19 and January 22, 2024.

In the meantime, other nearby radars in Virginia and New Jersey are expected to provide coverage for the area.
