Fitness Center Fire Damage Estimated At $275K

On Saturday, the Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal released information regarding their ongoing investigation into a fire that occurred yesterday in the 18000 block of Plantations Boulevard, Lewes.

The fire, which was reported shortly after 9:00 PM, involved the Dave Marshal Tennis and Fitness Center according to Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal John Galaska.

Galaska said upon arrival, the Lewes Fire Department discovered smoke and flames coming from the building. Additional support was provided by mutual aid fire companies.

Deputies from the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office were summoned to conduct an investigation to ascertain the fire’s origin and cause. Preliminary findings indicate that the fire started inside the structure. However, the exact cause is still being investigated. At the time of the incident, the building was unoccupied and did not have an automatic fire sprinkler system installed.

During the incident, a firefighter received treatment for heat exhaustion, but no other injuries were reported. The estimated damage to the structure is approximately $275,000. The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be provided as they become available.
