Three Adults, 3-Year-Old Injured In Newark Fire

Delaware State Fire Marshals are investigating a house fire that injured four Friday.

Officials said on January 5, 2024, at 12:03 p.m., a house fire occurred in the Meeting House Hill Neighborhood in Newark. The fire was reported in the unit block of Boyds Valley Drive, prompting a response from several local fire departments and emergency medical services.

Responding to the incident were the Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder Company, Mill Creek Fire Company, Christiana Fire Company, Hockessin Fire Company, and Cranston Heights Fire Company. Upon their arrival, the fire department units encountered an active fire situation with several individuals suffering from injuries. New Castle County Paramedics along with fire EMTs were also dispatched to the scene.

Lieutenant Abigail Haas, a spokesperson for the New Castle County Paramedics, said four individuals sustained injuries due to the fire. These included a 60-year-old male treated for facial burns, a 43-year-old male and a 41-year-old female, both treated for smoke inhalation and a 3-year-old female also treated for smoke inhalation. All patients were transported to Christiana Hospital in Stanton and were reported to be in stable condition.

Initial radio reports indicated that the child was rushed out of the house by one of the occupants. That person then ran back into the home. It’s not clear if they were helping the others out of the home.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating to determine the cause of the fire.
