Two Troopers, Three Others Injured In I-95 Crash

Two Pennsylvania State Troopers were injured in a Monday morning accident that closed I-95 SB for hours.

Officials said on January 1st, a motor vehicle collision involving injuries occurred on Interstate 95 Southbound, in the area of mile marker 5.3, in Chester City, Delaware County.

The incident, which took place at approximately 3:21 in the morning, involved three vehicles. The first was a 2010 white Acura TL, operated by a 21-year-old male from Chester, PA, with two passengers.

The second unit was a marked patrol unit, designated K2-09, manned by two Pennsylvania State Troopers who were assisting a disabled motorist in the left lane at the time of the incident. The third unit was a 2012 gray Dodge Challenger, which was the disabled vehicle and had no driver present during the collision.

The Trooper’s vehicle was hit from behind by the Acura TL, causing major damage and blocking all three lanes of traffic officials said. The Dodge Challenger was also struck, resulting in minor damage.

The two State Troopers and the occupants of the Acura TL were transported to the hospital. The troopers and the backseat passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were later released. The front-seat passenger of the Acura TL, was treated for serious injuries. The highway was closed for approximately five hours as the investigation proceeded.
