Claymont Man Killed In Motorcycle Accident Wednesday

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred Wednesday afternoon in Stanton that left one man dead.

Officials said on March 13, 2024, at approximately 3:58 p.m., a white 2024 GMC Sierra that was pulling an empty EBY horse trailer, was traveling southbound on Limestone Road, approaching the intersection with Tarry Lane.

Once at the intersection, the GMC came to a stop in the left turn lane. When the traffic signal indicated a green left arrow, the GMC entered the intersection and proceeded to make a U-turn. At the same time, a gray 2004 Yamaha YZF R1S sportbike was approaching the intersection as it was traveling northbound on Limestone Road at a high rate of speed according to police. As a result, the front of the Yamaha struck the right side of the GMC’s horse trailer while it was making the U-turn in the intersection.

The motorcyclist, a 24-year-old Claymon man, who had been wearing a DOT approved helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified.

The operator of the GMC, a 60-year-old man from Wilmington was not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately 4 hours while the investigators examined the scene and cleared the roadway.
