Teen Facing Assault Charge In February Shooting

Wilmington Police have arrested a 17-year-old male in connection with a February 20 shooting incident.

Officials said on February 20 at approximately 5:42 p.m., police were dispatched to the 1800 block of West 4th Street in reference to a shooting incident that had occurred. Police located a 17-year-old male gunshot victim, who was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

The case was assigned to Detective Kevin Nolan of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Nolan identified a 17-year-old male as a suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest police said Thursday. The 17-year-old juvenile, who had been arrested following this shooting incident on an unrelated matter by another agency, was being held at the New Castle County Detention Center.

He has been charged with Assault (First Degree), Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, and Criminal Mischief Under $1,000.

He was arraigned in the New Castle County Superior Court and received $131,000 cash-only bail in connection with the above charges. He remains committed to the New Castle County Detention Center.
