Newark Acme Damaged By Fire Late Sunday

Just before 10:45 Sunday evening, firefighters responded to reports of a fire inside the Acme store at The Grove in Newark.

Upon arrival, crews reported smoke in the building. Crews begin their attack on the fire and were able to bring the fire under control shortly after arrival.

The fire damage was contained primarily to one aisle, with additional smoke and water damage throughout the store.

Despite the store being open, no injuries were reported, thanks to the activation of the sprinkler system that helped contain the fire until firefighters extinguished it.

The incident is under investigation, with initial reports suggesting juveniles may have sparked the blaze.

This fire comes shortly after the store underwent significant renovations.

Firefighters from Aetna, with the assistance of several mutual aid companies worked for over an hour at the scene.
