Pedestrian Struck During Robbery Attempt, Three Teens Arrested

Officials have updated a story that First State Update told you about on Thursday.

On Thursday, March 7, 2024, at 1:23 p.m., Patrol Officers with the New Castle County Division of Police responded to the 1400 block of Kynlyn Drive for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. 

Officers arrived at the scene and learned that four juveniles arrived at the apartment complex in a silver Ford Fusion and were attempting to steal a Hyundai Elantra in the parking lot.

A 31-year-old female noticed the juveniles were attempting to steal her car when she confronted the juveniles. One of the suspects pushed the female to the ground. As they were about to flee, the female victim’s 58-year-old male co-worker witnessed this occurring and attempted to intervene. While leaving the scene, the juveniles struck the male causing injuries to his upper body police said. He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

Through the investigation, officers found the silver Ford Fusion was stolen on March 3, 2024, from an apartment complex in New Castle.  Officers located the Ford Fusion unoccupied in a neighboring apartment complex.  Patrol officers from C-Squad, K-9, and the Delaware State Police Trooper 4 Aviation Unit, responded to the area and apprehended three of the four suspects, but not after several foot pursuits, a K-9 track, and Trooper 4 assisting overhead.

The three juveniles were transported to the New Castle County Division of Police Headquarters. Detectives from both the Traffic Services Unit and the Criminal Investigations Unit responded to the scene and assumed their respective investigations.

The 17-year-old male from Wilmington was charged with three felony counts of conspiracy second-degree, two felony counts of attempt to commit theft of motor vehicle, one felony count of attempt to commit robbery, one felony count of theft of motor vehicle, one misdemeanor count of offensive touching. He was arraigned by New Castle County Family Court and bail was set at $15,500 secured.

The 14-year-old male from Newark was charged with three felony counts of conspiracy second-degree. one felony count of assault second-degree, one felony count of theft of motor vehicle, one felony count of receiving stolen property, one misdemeanor count of criminal mischief, one misdemeanor count of leaving the scene of a collision resulting in injury, one misdemeanor count of reckless driving, one violation of failure to report a collision resulting in injury. He was arraigned by New Castle County Family Court and bail was set at $13,000 cash.

A second 14-year-old male from Wilmington was charged with three felony counts of conspiracy second-degree, two felony counts of attempt to commit theft of a motor vehicle, one felony count of theft of motor vehicle, one misdemeanor count of criminal mischief. He was arraigned by New Castle County Family Court and bail was set at $10,500 secured.
