Two Medics, Elderly Man Injured In Accident Tuesday

The New Castle County Division of Police is currently investigating a motor vehicle crash involving a New Castle County Paramedics unit.

Officials said on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at 9:35 a.m., police responded to the intersection of Churchmans Road and Airport Road for the report of a motor vehicle crash.  Officers learned that the Paramedic unit was traveling westbound on Airport Road approaching Churchmans Road, with their lights and sirens activated, responding to a call.

The Paramedic unit approached the intersection, slowed down and proceeded through the intersection when they struck a blue Kia Sorrento, which was traveling southbound on Churchmans Road.

The New Castle County Paramedic Unit was being operated by a 39-year-old male and occupied by a 37-year-old female and 34-year-old male. The Kia Sorrento was being operated by a 75-year-old male.

The 39-year-old paramedic reported no injuries and did not need medical attention. The 37-year-old female paramedic and 34-year-old male paramedic were transported to Christiana Hospital Emergency Department with non-life-threatening injuries.  The 75-year-old male was transported to Christiana Hospital Emergency Department with non-life-threatening injuries.

The New Castle County Division of Police Traffic Services Unit was notified and responded to the scene to assume the investigation.

Officials said the investigation is in the preliminary stages and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
