Police: Bicyclist Dies After Being Struck By Altima

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a bicyclist on Wednesday evening in Camden.

Officials said on April 17, 2024, at approximately 9:17 p.m., a 2015 Nissan Altima was traveling southbound on Old Camden Road, just west of the South Dupont Highway intersection. For reasons under investigation, a bicyclist was attempting to cross South Dupont Highway and Old Camden Road from the east to the west according to police. The bicyclist crossed directly in front of the Nissan. As a result, the Nissan struck the bicyclist in the southbound travel lane of Old Camden Road.

The bicyclist, a 52-year-old man from Delaware, was taken to an area hospital by ambulance, where he died. His name is being withheld until family and relatives are notified.

The driver of the Nissan, a 22-year-old woman from Camden was not injured.

South Dupont Highway and Old Camden Road were closed for approximately 4 hours to investigate the crash and cleared.

Delaware State Police are investigating a serious traffic collision involving a vehicle and a bicycle.

At approximately 9:18 on Wednesday evening, crews responded to the intersection of Old Camden Road and South DuPont Highway in Camden Wyoming for reports of an accident.

Arriving crews found a police offer providing life-saving measures to a male bicyclist involved in the incident.

The rider sustained critical injuries and was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) closed the southbound lanes while the crash was investigated. The Delaware State Police issued a traffic advisory urging motorists to avoid the affected area.
