Two Charged After Main Street Assault In Newark

On April 7, 2024, at about 1:05 in the morning, Newark Police responded to an assault in the unit block of East Main Street.  Arriving officers located a male victim suffering from facial injuries.  The victim was transported to an area hospital by ambulance.  Further evaluation at the hospital determined he suffered serious physical injury.  No suspects were immediately identified.

Follow-up on the case was assigned to the Newark Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division.  The investigation determined that the victim had a verbal argument with two males who were not known to him.  After being separated, the victim began to walk away when the two males knocked him to the ground and one of the males kicked the victim in the face according to police.  Both suspects then fled the area.

Following an investigation, which included interviews of witnesses and a review of video in the area, the two male suspects were identified as Azarro Ravery, 19 and Rami Massoud, 20.  Both suspects are from Bethesda, Maryland.

On April 16, 2024, Newark Police took both suspects into custody without incident at a Newark apartment.

Both suspects were transported to Newark Police headquarters where they were each charged with Assault Second Degree and Conspiracy Second Degree.  Both suspects appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #2 by video and were released after posting $12,000 secured bail.
