Lincoln Man Facing Multiple Felonies After Traffic Stop

Delaware State Police arrested 33-year-old Joshua Witty from Lincoln, following a traffic stop on the morning of May 12, 2024, leading to multiple charges related to drug and weapon possession.

Officials said at approximately 11:09 a.m., a state trooper noticed a Dodge Charger speeding southbound on Coastal Highway near Eagles Crest Road. Upon conducting the traffic stop, the trooper detected the smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. As the trooper approached the driver, identified as Joshua Witty, smoke was seen rising from the center armrest, and traces of marijuana were evident on Witty’s clothing police said. When asked to exit the vehicle, Witty complied but subsequently tried to escape by running back to his vehicle according to police. The trooper quickly apprehended and arrested him.

A search of Witty and his vehicle uncovered a loaded 9mm handgun, a loaded .45 caliber handgun, approximately $706 in suspected drug proceeds, and various drug paraphernalia. Additionally, Troopers found approximately 863 bags (6 grams) of heroin, about 3 Levorphanol Tartrates, around 25 grams of crack, roughly 54 grams of cocaine, and approximately 1.6 grams of methamphetamine according to authorities.

Witty was taken to Troop 7, where he faced multiple charges including two counts of possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, three counts of possession of a controlled substance in Tier 3 quantity, three counts of intent to deliver a controlled substance in Tier 3, possession of a deadly weapon by a person possessing a controlled substance, possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, intent to deliver a controlled substance, and possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited. Additional charges include resisting arrest, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, and several traffic offenses.

Following his arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court 7, Witty was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $171,502 cash bond.
