Major Crash Closes 301, Two Helos Requested

A serious traffic accident occurred Thursday morning around 10:00 a.m., involving a truck and a bus southeast of Galena, Maryland, on MD 301.

Initial reports from the scene indicate that a pickup truck reportedly struck a stopped school bus at a speed of 40 to 50 mph.

Two male patients in the truck reportedly suffered severe injuries. One man, in his 30s, was airlifted by Delaware State Police Aviation’s Trooper 4 to Christiana Hospital. The second patient was transported to Shock Trauma in Baltimore by Maryland State Police Aviation’s Trooper 1. Both patients are reported to be in critical condition.

Possibly four patients on the bus were transported by ambulance, although that remains unclear. Early indications are that chaperones were also on the bus.

While emergency crews in Maryland responded to the scene, firefighters from the Clayton Fire Company in Delaware have been dispatched to Millington, Maryland, to cover the area and provide support. Crews from Cecil County and Middletown also responded to assist.

MD 301 is currently closed.
