William Penn Student Struck By Bus Friday Morning

Just after 7:10, Friday morning rescue crews responded to William Penn High School, located at 713 E Basin Road in New Castle for reports of a pedestrian struck.

The incident involved a low-speed collision where a student was struck by a bus traveling at approximately 10 MPH. Following the incident, the student was able to stand up and walk into the nurse’s office at the school.

The student was subsequently transported to AI DuPont Hospital for further evaluation to ensure. At the time of transport no serious injuries were reported.

In response to the incident, the school issued a communication to parents outlining the events and the measures taken “This morning at William Penn, there was an accident with a student and a school bus in the William Penn parking lot. We took immediate action, followed our safety protocols, which involved contacting the local authorities to ensure the safety of students and staff. The guardians of the student involved were contacted directly. The student was transported in an ambulance to a local hospital. “

Emergency response crews that responded to the scene included the Good Will Fire Company, Wilmington Manor Fire Company, and New Castle County Paramedics.
