Woman Killed In Camden Accident Saturday

File

The Delaware State Police are investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash that occurred yesterday afternoon in Camden that left one woman dead.

Officials said on Saturday, at approximately 2:33 p.m., a 1996 Ford F-150 was traveling westbound on Westville Road as it exited a gradual right curve in the area of Probst Lane.

For reasons under investigation, the Ford failed to remain in its lane and exited the north edge of the roadway, where it struck a mailbox before it continued in a northwesterly direction and struck a guardrail. The Ford rode the guardrail for a short distance before it fell into a deep tax ditch and struck an embankment.

The impact with the embankment caused the Ford to overturn onto its left side, during which the driver was partially ejected from the driver-side window and was pinned under the truck as it came to a stop.

The driver, a 45-year-old woman from Smyrna, Delaware, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name is being withheld until her family and relatives are notified.

The roadway was closed for approximately 4 hours while the investigators examined the scene and cleared the roadway.
