Man Injured In July 4th Motorcycle Accident Succumbs To Injuries

Wilmington Police are conducting an investigation into a fatal motor vehicle collision that took place on July 4.

Officials said at approximately 5:01 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of West 2nd and North Rodney Streets following reports of an accident involving a vehicle and a motorcycle.

Upon arrival, officers discovered 37-year-old Luis Jimenez Jr., the motorcycle’s driver, in critical condition. Jimenez was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on July 6.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities police said Tuesday.

Officials said the preliminary findings indicate that the motorcycle ran a red traffic signal, which led to the collision. The investigation is ongoing.
