Troopers Identify Man Killed In Newark Hit-And-Run

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run crash that occurred yesterday afternoon in Newark that left one man dead.

Officials said on July 5, 2024, at approximately 4:14 p.m., a pedestrian was walking northbound on the right shoulder of Salem Church Road, north of Michaels Lane. At the same time, an unknown white vehicle was also traveling northbound on Salem Church Road, north of Michaels Lane.

For unknown reasons, the vehicle failed to maintain its lane of travel and drifted onto the shoulder, where it struck the pedestrian. The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene and fled northbound on Salem Church Road.

The pedestrian, 57-year-old Michael Daloise of Newark was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The striking vehicle is a white vehicle of an unknown make and model with possible damage to the front right.
