Elderly Woman Seriously Injured After Crashing Into Building Saturday

Delaware State Police are investigating a crash where a vehicle struck a building in Newark.

Officials said an 85-year-old woman sustained serious injuries following a motor vehicle collision on the afternoon of August 31, 2024, at the Polly Drummond Hill Shopping Center in Newark. Crews from the New Castle County Paramedics and the Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder Company of Newark were dispatched to the crash at approximately 4:30, Saturday afternoon.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel discovered that a single vehicle, a small SUV, had crashed into a structure within the shopping center. The elderly female driver was treated on scene by paramedics for suspected head, internal, and extremity injuries. She was subsequently transported to Christiana Hospital in Stanton, where she remains in serious condition.
