Reports: Shooting At Newark Train Station May Have Involved Officer

Just before 4:45 p.m. Sunday, rescue crews responded to an incident at 100 Station Way in Newark. Initial reports indicate police officers were already on the scene when the call went out.

Shortly after, reports emerged of a shooting at the location, which sits just across Route 896 from the University of Delaware’s sports complex.

At least a dozen officers responded to the scene. One individual was transported to a nearby hospital, reportedly suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Sources in law endorsement tell FSU that a University of Delaware officer discharged her weapon, however, officials have not confirmed those details.

Newark Police tell FSU that the incident involved the University of Delaware Police not Newark Police. An email to the University’s Police Chief had not been responded to prior to this posting.

Both University of Delaware Police and Newark Police secured an area around a vehicle in the parking lot, where debris is visible. The site appears to be where medics attended to the injured individual.

This is a developing story. Updates will follow as more information becomes available.
