Officials update, elderly woman trapped under train in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DE – Emergency crews responded to a rescue at the Amtrak Train Station in Wilmington on Thursday afternoon after a 74-year-old woman fell from the platform and became trapped beneath a railcar.

According to Assistant Public Information Officer Leslie Antonelli-Hobbs, New Castle County Paramedics, the Wilmington Fire Department, and St. Francis Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the station at approximately 4:00 p.m. Upon arrival, responders found the woman pinned under the train and worked quickly to extricate her from the dangerous position.

Firefighters from the Wilmington Fire Department successfully freed the woman before she was transported to Christiana Hospital in Stanton by New Castle County Paramedics aboard a St. Francis ambulance. She was reported to be in stable condition with extremity injuries and possible internal injuries.
