TOWNSEND – A serious motor vehicle collision with entrapment occurred at the intersection of DuPont Parkway (Route 13) and Harris Road around 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, resulting in the closure of both northbound and southbound lanes.

First-arriving emergency personnel confirmed that two individuals were trapped inside the wreckage, with a total of three patients involved. Extrication efforts began immediately, and at 5:23 p.m., the first patient was freed just as Delaware State Police Aviation’s Trooper 4 landed in the southbound lanes. Two minutes later, Odessa Command reported that the second trapped patient had been successfully extricated.

One patient was airlifted to Christiana Hospital with unknown injuries. A second individual was transported by ground, while a third reportedly refused medical transport at the scene.

Authorities temporarily shut down Route 13 in both directions to facilitate emergency operations. As of the latest updates, the northbound lanes have been reopened. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
