Authorities are investigating a fatal fire that occurred late Wednesday night in Earleville, Maryland, resulting in the discovery of human remains within a destroyed mobile home.
At approximately 10:10 p.m. on April 16, firefighters from the Cecilton Volunteer Fire Company, along with support from nearby departments, responded to a report of a structure fire at 2 Kent Road. Upon arrival, crews encountered a mobile home fully involved in flames.
The incident remained a one-alarm fire; however, a tanker task force was requested to assist with water supply operations. Firefighters brought the fire under control within 30 minutes. During suppression efforts, first responders located human remains inside the residence.
Deputy State Fire Marshals determined the fire originated inside the mobile home, though the exact cause remains under investigation. Damages to the home and its contents are estimated at $150,000. It has not yet been confirmed whether smoke alarms were present or operational at the time of the fire.
The remains have been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for identification and to determine the cause of death.
