Harrington Man Charged With Arson In Fairground Road House Fire

HARRINGTON, Del. – A Harrington man has been arrested following an investigation into a residential fire that occurred earlier this month in Kent County.

On April 8, 2025, just before 7:30 p.m., emergency crews responded to the 500 block of Fairground Road for a reported structure fire. The Harrington Fire Company, assisted by several mutual aid departments, arrived to find the residence fully engulfed in flames. The home was unoccupied at the time, and no injuries were reported. The property was declared a total loss, with damages estimated at $200,000.

Deputy State Fire Marshals responded to the scene and determined that the fire had been intentionally set inside the residence. According to Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal Brian Schad, investigators worked in coordination with the Harrington Police Department, Delaware State Police, and concerned citizens to identify 64-year-old Karl Bryfogle of Harrington as the individual responsible for the arson.

Bryfogle was taken into custody on April 17, 2025. He was charged with Arson Second Degree and Burglary Second Degree, both felonies. Following arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court 2, he was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $10,000 secured bond.
