At approximately 6:14 p.m. on April 17, 2025, troopers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1500 block of Nathaniel Mitchell Road. Upon arrival, authorities learned that a 19-year-old man had sustained a gunshot wound and had self-transported to a local hospital for treatment. His injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening according to police.

Initial investigation showed that an unidentified Black male suspect exited a maroon Kia Sportage, fired several rounds at the victim, and then fled the scene in the same vehicle. The gunfire also struck an occupied residence and a vehicle parked on the property.

Later that evening, at approximately 9:05 p.m., troopers observed a maroon Kia Sportage matching the description of the suspect vehicle traveling northbound on Walker Road near Bicentennial Boulevard. The vehicle had been reported stolen. When troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. The pursuit concluded in the 400 block of Sorrell Circle in Smyrna, where five individuals abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
