Newark Police arrested a Wilmington man after a traffic stop led to a brief foot pursuit and the discovery of multiple offenses, including an active warrant for identity-related crimes.
On April 18, 2025, at approximately 5:22 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was found to be displaying a fictitious Pennsylvania registration. During the stop, the driver presented officers with a fraudulent foreign driver’s license. When officers questioned the validity of the document, the driver fled the scene on foot.
Officers pursued and quickly apprehended the suspect. The individual was later identified as 34-year-old Freddy Villanueva Alonso of Wilmington, Delaware. Further investigation revealed that Villanueva Alonso was wanted by another law enforcement agency on an active warrant for Identity Theft and Forgery.
Villanueva Alonso was subsequently charged with Identity Theft, False Statement, Criminal Impersonation, Resisting Arrest, and five traffic-related offenses. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court #11 and issued a $9,950 cash bond.
Unable to post bail, Villanueva Alonso was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution. Court records show that Alonso was in custody as of Thursday.
