A 68-year-old Philadelphia man has been arrested in connection with a July burglary at a New Castle County home, according to the New Castle County Division of Police.
Officers responded to the 300 block of South Thale Drive at approximately 2:00 a.m. on July 26 after receiving a report of a burglary. Police found signs of forced entry at the residence. The occupants were not home when the burglary occurred and later reported that valuable property had been stolen.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Unit took over the investigation and identified a Mercedes GL450 believed to have been associated with the burglary. Investigators subsequently identified Michael Guess, 68, of Philadelphia, as a suspect.
Detectives with the department’s Fugitive Apprehension and Surveillance Team located Guess on Monday, August 24, and took him into custody without incident. He was charged with felony second-degree burglary, felony theft of $1,500 or greater and misdemeanor criminal mischief.
Police said Guess was also wanted on two outstanding fugitive warrants, one from New Jersey and another from Pennsylvania.
Guess was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $100,000 cash bail on the fugitive charges. He received $13,000 unsecured bail on the charges stemming from the New Castle County burglary.
