Another Double Shooting Leaves One Dead, One Hospitalized

Wilmington Police are actively investigating two separate shooting incidents that claimed the lives of two men and injured two others within a span of one week.

The most recent incident occurred on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at approximately 11:06 p.m., in the 800 block of West 7th Street. Officers responded to reports of gunfire and located a 56-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he later died from his injuries. A second victim, a 19-year-old male, also sustained gunshot wounds and arrived at the hospital in stable condition.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased, and no information regarding suspects or motive has been made public. The investigation remains ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information to contact Detective James Rook at (302) 576-3621.

This shooting follows a deadly incident reported on Friday, May 23, 2025, near the intersection of West 23rd and Washington Streets. At approximately 7:44 p.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire and discovered two male victims at the scene. A 24-year-old man, later identified as Abu Thomas, was transported to the hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries. A second victim, a 25-year-old male, was hospitalized and listed in stable condition.

Police have not disclosed any information regarding suspects or the events leading up to the May 23 shooting. That investigation also remains ongoing.
