A large police response in the Northridge neighborhood of Claymont concluded Tuesday night after an hours-long investigation involving what was described as a barricaded subject.

At approximately 8:15 p.m. Tuesday evening, firefighters were initially dispatched to the 900 block of Causez Avenue for reports of an outside fire. During their response, law enforcement officials from the New Castle County Division of Police became involved. It’s not clear what occurred that cause the incident to become a police matter.

SWAT personnel, police drones, and a Delaware State Police helicopter were deployed to the scene to assist in securing the area. Residents living nearby were instructed to shelter in place, with some advised to take cover in their basements as a precaution.

At some point a male subject, who had reportedly been in the backyard of the property, fled back inside the residence.

The incident continued into the night, with officers maintaining a perimeter and attempting communication with the subject inside the home. By approximately 10:10 p.m., the barricade situation had ended. Police later confirmed that their investigation had concluded and that there was no ongoing threat to public safety.

Officials have not yet released details regarding the individual involved or any potential charges stemming from the incident.
