Townsend, DE – A pursuit reportedly involving a stolen vehicle ended with gunfire and multiple arrests Saturday night in Townsend.
At approximately 9:30 p.m., police were alerted to a vehicle that had been reported stolen out of New Castle County according to sources familiar with the incident. It’s believed that officers located the vehicle in Kent County possibly the Camden area. As officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the vehicle reportedly fled traveling at times, in excess of 100 miles per hour, as it headed north on Route 13.
During the pursuit, officers reportedly deployed, stop sticks. Despite the damage, the vehicle continued at high speeds, at times reaching 125 miles per hour. The suspect reportedly lost control near Denny Lynn Drive, spinning. Individuals in the vehicle then reportedly fled on foot into the woods east of Route 13 near Fieldsboro Road, sources tell FSU.
Shortly after the suspects entered woods gunfire erupted. Moments later, one individual was reported to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical crews were dispatched to the scene. Trooper 4, Delaware State Police Aviation, landed on Route 13 near the scene to assist. Medics treated the wounded male reportedly to be in his 20s, before airlifting him to an area hospital.
Multiple suspects were reported to be in custody. Route 13 was closed in both directions during the investigation as law enforcement secured the scene.
